FAQ

Questions, answered

Statement import currently works with HDFC and HSBC. We're actively adding more banks — if yours isn't supported yet, you can still add transactions manually. Narration rules are tuned for Indian UPI, NEFT, and RTGS formats so imported transactions auto-categorise correctly.

Not right now — and that's intentional. Grihasthi is local-first, which means we never touch your bank credentials. You import statements yourself. This keeps your data entirely under your control, with no third-party bank API in the middle.

iCloud sync is a Pro feature and is currently in development. Free and Lifetime are local-only. When sync ships, your Grihasthi account (just your email) ties your Pro licence to your devices, and iCloud handles the actual data transfer — so your transactions never pass through our servers.

Pro is coming soon — we're focused on getting the Mac app rock-solid first. Join the waitlist on the pricing section and you'll hear first. Early waitlist members will get a discounted introductory rate.

Free users don't need one — download and go, no sign-up required. A Grihasthi account is only needed for Pro: it's how your plan activates and how iCloud sync knows who you are across devices. We only ask for your email — nothing else. No name, no phone, no payment details stored on our end. Your financial data never touches our servers either way.

Think of it like Office 365 vs. Office LTSC. Pro is a ₹999/year subscription — you always get the latest features, iCloud sync, and everything new we ship. Lifetime is a one-time ₹2,999 purchase that gives you the full feature set at the time of purchase, permanently — but without iCloud sync and without future feature updates. It's the same stable build, forever.

Yes. Everything stays on your device. We have no servers that hold your data, no analytics that phone home, and no third-party SDKs with access to your transactions. The database is a plain SQLite file stored in your Mac's Application Support folder — you can back it up, inspect it, or migrate it any time.

Yes — that's exactly what multiple households in Pro is for. You can switch between profiles (e.g. your home and your parents' home) within the same app. Each household has its own accounts, transactions, and budget — completely separate.

You can upload PDFs and images (JPG, PNG, WebP) directly to any transaction or bill. Grihasthi shows a live preview so you can verify before saving. Files are stored locally alongside your database — nothing is uploaded anywhere.

No mobile plans for now — Grihasthi is a desktop app. macOS is available today, with Windows and Linux on the way. We want to get the desktop experience right before thinking about anything else.

You can upload your invoices/bills that you incur on a day to day basis and store them in a more organized fashion. I personally use it for my tax planning.
